The New Village School - The Aerodrome, Hawkinge This is where the proposed new village County Primary School will be built. The school will be run alongside the existing primary school to help ease the burden that is being generated by all the development that is taking place in Hawkinge. The new school is expected to be opened with temporary classrooms for the start of the new school year in 2001. A public meeting was held in 1999 to discuss the new school, and even though the general feeling at the meeting was to have the existing school as an infants and the new school as a juniors, KCC Education have opted for the separate primary school. Part of this decision will have been taken from the results of the public questionnaire that people filled in and returned. The main point is that Hawkinge is getting another school which is desperately needed. Update, the temporary section of the school has now been built and the first term began in September 2001. Double update, I've not got around to taking any photographs of the new school development both temporary and permanent versions, but trust me, it's looking good and a lot better than the pile of pipes listed here. In the meantime if anyone has any photographs they can send me (digital camera is extremely sick at the moment) then please do. Such is the outdated nature of this page, a recent public meeting was held to discuss the options for expanding the new permanent structure (not shown here as explained previously). Do you know, I cringe every time I think that the school's headmistress, Jenny Carter, has possibly looked at this page. Should I ever get to meet her I suspect I will be put on a year's detention for not trying hard enough?!?! |
