Paul, Rover V8 experts reckon this engine is best served by high oil volume *not* necessarily pressure. I don't think it's a good idea to remove the capacity in this way - certainly do not overfill on the dipstick mark - you'll end up with oil lying higher in the engine than it was designed for. If this happens you may end up with foaming around the crank, or worse - oil getting up past the cylinders.
My kit car has a group A baffled and enlarged sump so I get an extra 3 litres to the dipstick mark. There's no oil cooler fitted but the extra volume seems to keep the temp in check. If I were you I'd consider welding on "wing tanks" to your reduced sump to get the capacity back - or dry sump the car!! ;-)
