Hello Jamie, Normal no load voltage should be 14.7 volts, but if you are looking at your car voltmeter I wouldn't worry. Obvious things first, fan belt driving properly. The only other thing I would do (assuming a Lucas 15\17ACR alternator) is check the brushes and renew if required otherwise go and get an exchange unit from your local Autoelectrical factor. My last alternator cost about £30 + vat. Not worth the trouble of repairing in my view. (Regulator had gone on mine)
