I'll be in touch with my parts guy soon, I could get a price for a diff from him if you want, don't know what delivery would cost though.
As for the tired auto 'box, I'd stick with that for towing, and I'd find a good auto rebuild shop and have it tested. A few diagnostic tests should reveal exactly what's wrong with it. A rebuild inc. torque converter & new cooler will cost more than swapping for s/h, but you'll know you have a 'box for the next 100,000+ rather than relying on someone else's worn out tat.
