The autobox that came on my Dad's 1976 2500S (MOG704P) was the 35, which packed up shortly after owning the car on a caravan holiday to Wales! Great fun on the way back going up and down hills with the van when the 'box just keeps randomly jumping between gears! Engine bearings didn't like it too much either! I think the reason for this was that the car (despite having only 70000 on it) had been sat for about 4yrs before we bought it, so although good bodywork, the mechanicals started to wear out for everyday use. We then got the 65 out of the spares car in the garage (1977 2500S with 130000 miles) and put it in my Dad's. 3yrs later this 'box is still pretty strong (having covered an additional 15000 miles since then). But it is starting to show it's age now! And my Dad is completely rebuilding the 2500S lump in the spares car with a new cam to give his car a bit more go as the engine is now rattling on. But he's concerned that the old 65 in at the moment will 'soak up' the power of the new power unit so wants a new/recon unit to exchange with it. Problem with getting ours recon'd is that it is used daily and so is mine, so we would have to source a temp car (which always turn out to be more hassle than the Triumphs!).
Does anybody know of any places a recon/new BW65 can be sourced or anywhere reputable in the Midlands (we live in K'Ford, nr Dudley) that can recondition one?
Thanks, Ian Thomason
