PI owners are more passionate about their cars... this passion is best recorded under the bonnet at 2am when an injector inexplicably ingests tiny pieces of rubber and fails to inject... I think the PI was the best version of the big saloon IF everything is sorted.. they also tend to rust a bit less than an S. However any car that has survived this long is a bit of a fluke. The main difference with the S is a lack of eagerness (torque?) that the injected car should have if well set up. The front end sogginess is tempered by the antiroll bar which a standard PI saloon doesn't have.
I suppose it depends where you drive. My girlfriend has a standard 2500S auto which is a joy in town with it's PAS. I have a PI estate which is a joy on the open road and has no PAS.. in town it is less fun. The S is totally reliable, the PI has had the odd (easily fixed when you know how) hiccup....
