I think the main difference with pattern parts is, as they name suggests, they are made from a pattern, not the original formers, hence the dimensions are not always spot on. The problesm occur when trying to fit them and shut lines become wrong, they don't line up with the next panel by ever such a small amount. As far as metal quality goes, well you get what you pay for, for MKI owners then the metal will be of inferior quality, but compared to later MKII rust buckets the steel is probably better! Bearing in mind, that these cars, whilst not hand built, were hand finished. We have all seen photo's and read stories about how the cars were "fettled" after production, usually with lead loading, to correct body panel fit and shape. Perhpas we need to bear that in mind. We should think ourselves lucky that we are not rebuilding E type Jagaurs. I heard the because of the massive differences in tolerances when they were built, that if you buy a new bonnet for an E type (about £3000) that it comes at least 6" too long, to allow you to trim it to fit any car! Ouch!! Stick to reputable suppliers like Chris Witor or Earlpart and you should'nt go far wrong, but if it is advertised as a repro, get ready for lots of fiddling to get it to fit. I'll look out for some suppliers at the show and send you details when I have them, just remind me again, what exactly do you want? Rgds Alan
